S2, E8-12: MOTHERS NEED…

*If you haven't already, I encourage you to listen to Part 1 of our Six Human Needs Episodes before diving into the following episodes.

certainty

Certainty is the desire to feel safe, to be comfortable in your environment, and to experience pleasure while avoiding pain. With a great amount of certainty, you feel stable, grounded, protected, secure, and can predict certain necessary safeguards in your life.

Variety

We all want and need variety in our lives. It's all about going outside your comfort zone and trying something new and different. And let's be honest, in the depths of motherhood the repetition of daily tasks doesn't give us the variety we need.

Significance

This is our need to feel special, significant, or important to another person or group of people. Often times in motherhood we are pouring everything we have into everyone else (without recognition). It's easy to lose your sense of self in the trenches of motherhood, but I'm here to tell you that it is possible (and SO important) to find significance not just as a mother, but as a woman too.

Love & Connection

We all hope and strive for love - to give and to receive. All humans need to feel connected with themselves and others with whom we can share our love. We all know you're giving, giving, giving love to your children every single day. But are you giving that same love to yourself? Are you receiving it from others?

Growth & Contribution

Everything in existence is either growing or dying. Humans need growth in every capacity: spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. Development in all four areas is key to a healthy life. And contribution is the act of looking beyond oneself, going beyond one's own needs, and giving to others with no hopes for or expected personal gain. It's contributing to other people, a cause, or to a movement. It's a way to leave a legacy, a mark on the world, to make a difference.
